Know Your Rights and Responsibilities
Be an Informed participant in your divorce and your future.
At Helfand & Associates, we are well respected, strong and fair. If you need to litigate, we will fight for your rights and the rights of your children. If you can settle at any point in the case, we will work diligently to obtain a fair agreement on your behalf.
Do you want your lawyer to try to push for a fair settlement or do you want to fight about resolvable issues until your money runs out? Do you want your lawyer to care about your savings so that it can be used for your children’s education or your future? Do you want to be a part of the process and make decisions as a unique individual or do you simply want to be a file?
We are a boutique firm with staff large enough to provide exceptional legal service. However, we are different from other firms because we listen to your unique situation, treat you with respect, and we are very careful with your money.
Our goal is to help you get a divorce and a reasonable settlement that your spouse and your children can live with. You should be able to move on to a better future. Our goal is to provide high quality legal services. Facing a divorce, or any court issue, is a scary event. We are here to guide you through this process with our experience. We litigate with firms large and small. Remember, even when you have a large firm, you still only work with one or two lawyers. You definitely want someone strong behind you, but also someone smart, trustworthy, diligent and persistent.
Each case is unique. If there is an important issue to be litigated, we will pursue with passion. We will, however, be clear and upfront about the cost of this fight and the possible outcomes, both financially and emotionally so you can make your own decisions about the process.
Most of the time, a divorce can take less than a year. Most people have issues that, with proper disclosure and information, can be resolved months into the process. Your lawyer should make an effort to settle and discuss the benefits and detriments (both financial and emotional) of continued litigation over settlement. Obviously not everyone can settle within months, but most can if the proper efforts are made at the right time.
We cannot pick your spouse’s lawyer to guarantee a reasonable proceeding, but we are totally dedicated and experienced in obtaining the information you need. We work with ethical, qualified experts for custody and economic matters when needed. Tanya N. Helfand, Esq., is a Certified Matrimonial Attorney who has been practicing law for 22 years.
