What to say about Tanya Helfand, Esq.?? Well, to start, by nature I am an exceedingly critical and pessimistic person who is able to filter out BS or anyone attempting to play me. So…with that being said, in Tanya you won’t get anything but Grade A++ service, no nonsense and, most importantly, a NO BS attorney who also cuts through any BS from the opposition. She represented me in a divorce action with the opposition being a large firm whose operating standard seemed be “we guarantee incompetence along with procrastination”. Yet, Tanya was always driving and pushing on my behalf. She is small in stature but don’t be fooled - with her you are getting a pit bull terrier in lawyer form. While I may sound like a public relations rep hired by her, I’m absolutely NOT - I’m just a fully satisfied customer who appreciated her top shelf service, her dedication to her profession and my needs. Can she be brusque?? I recently went through the divorce process over a very difficult 2 year period. Without question it was the most difficult and trying times of my life emotionally, physically and of course financially. You spend years building up a life and family together with a person and then the divorce process requires you to pull it all apart and somehow divide it equally. I felt based on our meeting and calls that Tanya was dedicated and trustworthy. She was no-nonsense and overall the kind of person I wanted as my lawyer: aggressive but not offensive. I just wish she had followed through a little better in the very end. Throughout my case, Tanya was the person working with me. I was surprised when Tracy--whom I had never met--showed up to the final court date, and embarrassed that she had to ask opposing counsel for a copy of paperwork and to verify facts. I felt that compared to Tanya's professionalism, Tracy was a disappointment, and I would have preferred that a junior associate work with me throughout the process than to not even recognize my attorney when she arrived at court! Tanya also charged nearly double what she had quoted for my maximum expected budget. Had she told me up front what the total would be, I would have had no problem; I just didn't like that surprise. I would recommend Helfand & Associates only if you accept that you may pay significantly more than expected, and suggest you specify whether or not you would prefer Tanya herself representing you. She is certainly the kind of person I wanted helping me, and her dedication and professionalism are unrivaled.
